The Somerset Energy and Environment Network brings together groups in Somerset who have in interest in energy and environment issues. If you are a group that would like to join us use our contact form to get in touch.
South Somerset Community Energy (SSCES) is a not-for-profit Community Benefit Society, whose aims are to reduce carbon emissions and fuel bills, especially for those in fuel poverty, throughout South Somerset.
The Isle of Wedmore Green Group (WGG) is an umbrella organisation to co-ordinate, explore and encourage sustainable living as it could apply in practical terms to Wedmore and the surrounding villages.
Avalon Community Energy, known as ACE, are the local energy co-operative for Glastonbury, Street, Shepton Mallet and Wells. Set up as a Community Benefit Society, ACE aims to bring community-owned renewable energy to Avalon whilst generating money for the local area to address issues such as fuel poverty.
Brendon Energy is as an Industrial and Provident Society for community benefit and its purpose is to develop renewable energy resources. It is a community business, which we would like to be owned by lots of people in our community. It is managed by a board of directors, who are elected by shareholding members, and governed by a set of rules.
Taunton Transition Town was set up in 2008 and has links with neighbouring Transition communities and with Taunton Deane Council. Its members aim to create a happier, fairer and stronger community and develop a vibrant local economy. The group is about “doing” things together, but equally about being a community group with a positive outlook based on mutual wellbeing, practical collaboration – and fun! They welcome everyone who wants to help build local resilience in our lives, economy and environment.
Transition Town Wellington (TTW) is one of thousands of groups that make up the Transition Network which was started in Totnes in 2006. The Wellington group was
formed in 2008.
Their aim is to find positive, practical solutions to the serious environmental threats we are facing - the devastating effects of climate change, such as flooding and droughts, caused by burning fossil fuels like coal and gas and our increasing demand for oil which is now running out.
They believe that by working together, locally where we live, we can find alternatives to fossil fuels and ways of saving energy and reducing waste. Transition Towns is about
taking control and improving our own lives – saving ourselves money as well as saving the world we live in – rather than leaving it to government and businesses to make decisions.
Transition Town Wellington's Sustainable Food subgroup began in September 2013.
The group runs lots of events, including bread making, soup making, apple juicing, chutney making and Christmas events. It also runs four talks a year on how to grow organic vegetables, a seed swap in February, and is starting a project to plant fruit trees/bushes and nut trees around Wellington for the community to use, with a map showing where they are!
Quantock Eco (QE) are a group of volunteers committed to raising awareness of environmental issues with those who live or work in and around the Quantocks area in West Somerset. They want to help people make the transistion to a more sustainable lifestyle and meet the challenges of the 21st Century regarding energy, waste, food, transport and water.
They aim to run or support practical projects for individuals, groups and communities on the Quantock Hills.
Like other Transition groups, the first of which was formed in Totnes in 2006, we want to see vibrant, sustainable, resilient local communities and economies. We do what we can to bring this about in our own area.
Forum 21 is a voluntary group based in West Somerset dedicated to raising environmental issues and fighting climate change.
Transition Minehead and Alcombe is a group of like minded individuals from Minehead, Alcombe and the surrounding area, who support the idea of our community becoming more self-reliant, by working together and supporting each other.
They aim to improve Minehead and Alcombe’s resilience to the effects of climate change and resource loss, promoting a thriving community in which to live for generations to come.
Wivey Action on Climate was set-up in October 2014. Their aims are:
a) To raise awareness of climate change, the contribution of human carbon emissions and their effects on the life of our community;
b) To positively engage and work with local people, businesses and community organisations in the Wiveliscombe area on climate change and solutions;
c) To promote and support low carbon and sustainable living and working in the Wiveliscombe area;
d) To campaign at local, national and international levels for sustainable solutions to climate change which improve human well-being and protect the natural world.

Transition Langport is committed to taking action to create a low energy/carbon future. They aim to help build a community that works together to become more resilient and self-reliant. They focus on the following key areas: Transport, Energy, Food Waste, Water, Buildings, Community, Health, Education and Environment.
